After Grant Gustin's Recent Comments About Returning As The Flash, I'm Convinced James Gunn's DC Universe Could Make It Happen

Grant Gustin did an incredible job playing the Flash for nearly a decade on The CW, and the DCU feels like the perfect place to bring him back again. When The CW began building the Arrowverse, it stood out as arguably the best connected universe from DC at the time. Yes, it was competing with the DCEU, but in the same span of time, the Arrowverse released several shows, with multiple series getting more than five seasons, and plenty of crossovers.
However, beyond the logistics of the Arrowverse, part of what made that franchise so good was the cast. Stephen Amell"s Oliver Queen was perfect for the role, but when Gustin was added as Barry Allen and his character had such a strong contrast to the Green Arrow, it was a perfect match. But, of course, this outstanding shared universe eventually came to an end to make way for the unified DCU to build a multimedia franchise that would include TV, animation, and video games in addition to the theatrical releases.
Grant Gustin Recently Said He's Open To Returning As The Flash Grant Gustin Has A Special Connection To The Character Close Recently, Grant Gustin was a guest on Michael Rosenbaum"s podcast, Inside of You, where the two spoke about their time on shows based on DC Comics. Rosenbaum played Lex Luthor for over a decade on Smallville, while Gustin evidently starred as The Flash in the Arrowverse. But when Rosenbaum asked Gustin if he would be open to returning to the role of The Flash, Gustin"s answer was illuminating.
"Yeah, of course, there"s a lot of things that I"d have to like ask... not for, but about. I"d be more interested in the [creative side]."
The thing is, Gustin was passionate about playing the character. He spent a significant chunk of his life and career up to that point in the role. It makes perfect sense that he would still be drawn to the character, and hopeful that he could one day pick up where he left off. And it"s also interesting that he specifies that he would want to ask about the creative side, in terms of understanding the how and why for his version of the character returning, or if he would be playing Barry Allen in a slightly different way to what he did for The Flash TV show.
James Gunn's DC Universe Has Been Meticulous About Its DC Stories James Gunn Has High Standards For The DCU Close Fortunately, this appears to be perfectly in alignment with the co-head of DC Studios, James Gunn. Gunn is building a bright and shiny new future for the DCU, with numerous projects announced and several more being developed behind the scenes. However, he has also been very vocal about the quality of the projects he would like to put out, and the hurdles he has placed in order to make sure everything with the DCU label meets a high standard. Gunn specifically confirmed that in order for a project to get made in the DCU, it needs to have a strong script written before it can get the green light and start pre-production.
