If the MCU opted to adapt these
Hulk fights from the comics, it would help rescue the hero"s current underwhelming MCU story. As one of the first heroes introduced in the MCU’s movie timeline, the Hulk has been a key part of the franchise almost since its inception. Having appeared in his own solo movie, multiple Avengers movies, and in a supporting capacity in several other MCU projects, Hulk is one of the most prolific heroes in the franchise.
Despite being one of the franchise’s few remaining founding Avengers, Hulk’s MCU story has been largely underwhelming. However, considering the character’s rich Marvel Comics history, there is plenty of inspiration in his past to help redeem his MCU story, and many of the Hulk’s most iconic battles from the comics would make perfect MCU action scenes. With that in mind, here are 10 huge Hulk scenes from the comics that the MCU needs to make a reality.
10 Hulk Vs The Thing As seen in: Fantastic Four Vol. 6 #12-13 Close There are a number of characters that Hulk seems to do battle with more than others, and the Thing ranks highly on that list. The muscle of the Fantastic Four has faced off against the Hulk on numerous occasions in the comics, with some of their most iconic battles being especially devastating for both heroes. The battle between the pair from Fantastic Four Vol. 6, issues 12 and 13, stands out as a particularly noteworthy contender for MCU adaptation.
With the Thing set to make his franchise debut in the cast of Fantastic Four: First Steps, it seems that the MCU could be heading towards a battle between the two behemoths. The battle from Fantastic Four Vol. 6 actually sees the Thing knock Hulk unconscious, with the victory also significantly injuring the Thing. However,
any battle between the pair would make for an epic spectacle in live-action, especially as Avengers: Secret Wars may well pit them against one another.
9 Hulk Vs Carl Burbank As seen in: Immortal Hulk #17
![]()
Immortal Hulk saw the Hulk engage in numerous battles with a variety of characters, exploring various aspects of the character’s abilities and personality along the way. Immortal Hulk #17 sees Carl Burbank, A.K.A. Bushwacker, brought in to kill Bruce Banner. Burbank’s grudge against Banner and Hulk sees him intend to make them suffer using sunlight and a trap, which is unwittingly sprung by the hero.
With his Joe Fixit persona in control, Hulk is able to outsmart Burbank by overloading himself with gamma radiation, causing him to transform into a grotesque amalgamation of his many muscular forms.
The battle explores the complexity of Hulk as a character while also giving him one of the smartest victories in the character’s history. Considering it makes use of both his muscles and his intelligence while also addressing some of his weaknesses, it would make an excellent addition to the Hulk’s MCU story.
8 Hulk Vs Zeus As seen in: Hulk #622 Close The Hulk has long been established as one of Marvel’s strongest characters, and has often been depicted as almost impossible to beat in a traditional fight. However, there are occasions where Hulk’s strength has been questioned, with one of his most brutal defeats coming at the hands of Zeus. In Hulk #622, Zeus engages the Hulk in a fist fight, delivering him one of the most brutal beatdowns he has ever experienced.
With Zeus having been introduced in the cast of Thor: Love and Thunder, seeing the pair face off in the MCU is a possibility. However, Russell Crowe’s older Zeus was not depicted as a character immediately capable of taking down the Hulk, meaning that some creative writing would be required. Even so,
witnessing a scene in which the Hulk is outpunched could make for an epic MCU moment, should it be adapted carefully.
7 Hulk Vs Juggernaut As seen in: World War Hulk: X-Men #3 Close Marvel’s very own unstoppable force, the Juggernaut, is one of its most often overlooked powerhouses. Imbued with the magical ability of unstoppable momentum, the Juggernaut is often considered one of the most resilient characters in the Marvel Universe. Across the character’s history, he has fought the Hulk on a handful of occasions, with the pair being surprisingly even in many encounters. Though the Hulk is stronger, he can’t beat the Juggernaut with brute force, which often requires creative tactics in order for the hero to emerge victorious.
The Hulk and the Juggernaut’s respective abilities makes any fight between them an especially enticing prospect. Their many battles in the comics have seen them be evenly matched in many ways, which could translate well to an MCU adaptation. With various X-Men characters set to appear in Avengers: Doomsday, it could be that the MCU has an obvious path to adapting one of their incredible battles in live-action.
6 Hulk & Namor Vs The Avengers As seen in: Avengers #3
![]()
The MCU has already seen the Hulk battle his fellow Avengers on occasion, but never to the extent seen in Avengers #3. Published in 1963, the comic book story saw Hulk quit the team, and subsequently battle against his former teammates. Joined by Namor the Sub-Mariner, Hulk’s battle against Thor, Giant-Man, Wasp, and Iron Man was an epic showdown that held special significance for the Hulk and his Marvel story.
Adapting a battle between the Hulk and multiple Avengers teammates in the MCU could be a potentially emotional development. Having the founding Avenger turn against his fellow heroes would be a surprising twist, and would allow for some of Marvel’s most powerful figures to do battle on the big screen. With numerous Avengers already existing within the MCU, and both Hulk and Namor active within the franchise, an adaptation of the battle could potentially be on the horizon.
5 Hulk Vs Red Hulk As seen in: Hulk Vol. 2 #4-13 Close One of Hulk’s most iconic adversaries from the comics is none other than Red Hulk, the gamma-infused alter-ego of Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross. The pair have faced off on numerous occasions, and with both behemoths fueled by rage, there is no shortage of animosity between them. The pair’s most iconic battle came during Hulk Vol. 2 #4-13, where Red Hulk was shockingly able to best his green adversary before having the tables turned by an unexpectedly clever approach from the founding Avenger.
Adapting a battle between the two would now be incredibly easy for the MCU, as Red Hulk has finally made his franchise debut as part of the cast of Captain America: Brave New World. Though Hulk was not at all present in Red Hulk’s MCU debut, the pair are now both active within the franchise.
With upcoming Avengers movies set to include both characters, a live-action battle between them may finally be close at hand.
4 Hulk Vs The X-Men As seen in: World War Hulk: X-Men Close The X-Men remain some of Marvel’s most consistently popular characters, and have long been an integral part of the wider Marvel Universe. The team has faced off against Hulk a few times, with the most notable example being World War Hulk: X-Men. In the three-issue miniseries, the team of mutant heroes are pitted against Hulk due to Professor X’s connection with the Illuminati, who banished Hulk into space. The battle is appropriately epic, and sees Hulk take on a number of powerful mutants.
The X-Men are soon set to fully appear in the MCU as part of the cast of Avengers: Doomsday, potentially facilitating a battle between them and the Hulk. Though any ensuing fight isn’t likely to be an adaptation of their large-scale battle in World War Hulk: X-Men, it is an opportunity to see them at odds in live-action.
Seeing some of Marvel’s most powerful mutants taken on by a raging Hulk is an intriguing prospect, and could yet happen in the MCU.
3 Hulk Vs The Crossroads Dimension As seen in: Incredible Hulk #300-312
![]()
Throughout the Hulk’s history, there have been a number of stories that stand out as particularly defining moments for the character. Hulk’s time exiled in the Crossroads remains one of the most formative moments in his Marvel history, as it introduced several key elements of his characterization. Beginning in Incredible Hulk Vol. 1 #300, a rampaging Savage Hulk is exiled to the Crossroads by Doctor Strange, where he does battle with the many figures he meets there.
Though it isn’t a single fight, Hulk’s time in the Crossroads would be perfect for the MCU to adapt to help redeem its treatment of the character. It explores some of the complexities of the Hulk, with Banner completely absent until Incredible Hulk Vol. 1 #312, establishing interesting elements of the character.
Seeing the Hulk fight his way through the interdimensional plane could be nothing short of a visual spectacle, and would be great for the MCU.
2 Hulk Vs Sentry As seen in: World War Hulk #5 Close The Hulk has fought many of Marvel’s most powerful characters, and Sentry is no exception. Often considered Marvel’s Superman, Sentry is one of the most powerful members of the Avengers, and his incredible strength and varied abilities any potential showdown between him and the Hulk a major affair. The most notable battle between the two came in World War Hulk #5, where the Hulk was able to best the Sentry in a fight.
The MCU wouldn’t necessarily need to adapt a World War Hulk story in order to have the pair face off, however. With Sentry set to make his MCU debut in Thunderbolts*, there will seemingly be plenty of opportunity to see him fight the Hulk in the franchise’s future. Though it may not come to pass,
seeing the Hulk fight against one of Marvel’s most powerful heroes could be a great way to continue his MCU story.
1 Hulk Vs Wolverine As seen in: Ultimate Wolverine Vs. Hulk Close Wolverine is undoubtedly one of the most iconic members of the X-Men, and he has faced the Hulk many times in Marvel Comics history. However, none of the pair’s battles have ever been adapted into live-action, though the MCU could potentially do so in the foreseeable future. Perhaps the best fight between Hulk and Wolverine came in Ultimate Wolverine Vs. Hulk, with the Hulk brutally tearing Logan apart before his healing factor could restore him.
Having two of Marvel’s seemingly unkillable characters fighting might well make for an unforgettable piece of cinema. Both Wolverine and Hulk have enjoyed considerable cinematic success, and so their MCU battle would need to be appropriately epic. Should the MCU seek to redeem its unimpressive treatment of the hero, pitting Wolverine against the
Hulk would be a truly excellent way to do so.
